I am looking to get some readers for a BBC / History Channel
documentary we are filming in Washington in February. Please could you
forward this to the actors list you administrate:
We are currently making a four-part series covering the history of the
United States. It is written and presented by Professor Simon Schama
of Columbia University, and will attempt to explore America's past
using themes which are particularly relevant to American society
today. At the moment the transmission date for the US is October 2008.
We will be offering a small fee ($200 for the day) to those who
audition successfully, and will be able to provide transport / cover
travel expenses to and from the film location. We would ask that you
bring your own wardrobe, as laid out in the casting brief attached.
You will be asked to learn a short, famous quote before the shoot,
which is also in the casting brief.
Our shoot dates are the 24th Feb and 26th Feb but each actor will only
be needed for one of those days. Our director will cast from a
shortlist on the 23rd Feb.
All applicants who fulfill the casting brief and are available on
those days should send a headshot and resume to email@oftv.co.uk. Fees
/ travel expenses will be paid in cash on the day.
Many thanks,

Contract Public Speakers
Making It Count is currently recruiting contract speakers for our
upcoming 2008 programs, "Making High School Count" and "The Ultimate
Road Trip." These 45-minute presentations are offered to high school
and college freshmen from July-December 2008.
Making It Count, a division of Monster Worldwide, is the industry
leader in "edutainment" delivering more than 11,000 free educational
presentations to high school students, college students, and parents
nationwide. Speakers offer motivation and information to students on
how to make the most of their high school experience, succeed in
college, and best prepare themselves to maximize their opportunities
upon graduation. By achieving these goals, Making It Count will play a
meaningful role in reversing the long-term negative trends in college
graduation rates and graduate employment statistics. Since 1998, we
have reached more than 18 million students!
Our Program Coordinators call on schools daily, signing them up for
our free programs. Regional Managers then contact our speakers
nationwide and check their availability to deliver the scheduled
presentations. Making It Count provides the program content (i.e.
scripts) for speakers. To become certified as a speaker, you must
attend and certify at our all-expenses-paid, top-quality, professional
training to be held in July 2008. Compensation varies between $100 and
$250 per presentation based upon distance traveled for the
presentation. Once certified, all speakers are hired as independent
contractors. Independent contractors are not eligible for benefits.
The average speaker will deliver approximately 10-15 presentations per
semester depending upon the following:
Ø School sign-ups in your area
Ø Your speaking ability
Ø Your availability
Ø Your flexibility (travel, driving, overnight trips, flights)
SPEAKER CRITERIA:
Ø Associate or Bachelor's degree (minimum requirement)
Ø Excellent public speaking skills
Ø Ability to speak to and engage large (100-800) audiences of students
and educators
Ø Vocal projection and variance
Ø Strong stage presence and image of professional success
Ø Flexible schedule during school hours
Ø Immediate access to email and the Internet
Ø Reliable transportation
Ø Ability and willingness to travel up to three hours by car
VIDEO PRESENTATION TIPS (What to do and what not to do)
Ø Video does NOT have to be created by a professional
Ø Video content is open to topic – should be something you are
passionate about that will also engage high school students – we are
looking for your ability to relate to the students.
Ø Please STAND UP during your presentation.
Ø To give us an idea of your enthusiasm, pretend that you are
presenting to 500 high school students in an auditorium.
Ø We do not use podiums – please show us your ability to "work the room."
Ø An introduction to your presentation is not necessary – please set
your video to begin with your actual presentation.
Ø Professional acting/comedy/news anchor clippings or stories may not
truly showcase your ability to present with an engaging,
conversational style – please try to avoid these types of submissions.
Ø KEY TIP: We are looking for strong, upbeat, energetic, relatable,
conversational speakers from the moment you begin your presentation!
We also want to see that you hold this energy throughout!
Ø WE ONLY ACCEPT VHS, MINI-VHS, MINI DV'S AND DVD'S (please no
webcams, web links or mini USB devices)
HOW TO APPLY:
Send us a hard copy of your cover letter, resume and your 5-10 minute
video presentation utilizing the presentation tips listed above.
Please submit materials to:

The Shakespeare Workout
A two-day intensive workshop
with international Shakespeare artist Molly Lyons.
Come experience a 'gym for the Bard' and reinvigorate your minds,
bodies and spirits while increasing your confidence and joy in
exploring Shakespeare!
This is a lively workout of Shakespeare's repertoire in a fun, no
pressure playground, with a great variety of exercises. In a
supportive, playtime atmosphere you can get a revitalizing workout
with the Bard. The workout is set-up with physical and vocal
warm-ups, a short but lively bit explaining the "rules" of text which
become clues for discovering the character, followed by exercises and
improvisations, followed by interactive Shakespeare text explorations,
including individual monologue/soliloquy work. Wear comfortable
clothes and shoes in which you can move. You will need at least one
memorized piece - 10-16 lines of verse is good - with which you can
work. If you wish to explore a Sonnet, they are the perfect length
and there are over 150 of them.
This Shakespeare Workout is an effective tool to arm any actor's
confidence and awareness. Exercises come from the instructor, Molly
Lyons, The Royal Shakespeare Company of England, Shakespeare & Co. of
Massachusetts and the original London Shakespeare Workout.
Molly Lyons is an accomplished actor, director, teacher and playwright
with over 30 years of experience in professional theatre.
Molly's training includes The Royal Shakespeare Co., Shakespeare &
Co., and The London Shakespeare Workout.
Molly is Artistic Director of the Green Wood Studio (since 1994) and
teaches her international workshops in Chicago, Ireland, LA, NY,
Ontario, Paris, Seattle & Vancouver BC. She is an artistic associate
with the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival where she serves as actor,
director, casting director and education director.
Molly has performed in film, television, voice-over and the theatre
all over the west coast including La Jolla Playhouse, New Mexico
Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre; also at the Kennedy
Center in Washington, DC, and internationally in Ireland, Ontario,
